The National Archives will host its sixth annual Genealogy Fair over two days. The fair showcases Federal records located at the National Archives and professional genealogy organizations’ resources for doing research on family history. The fair will provide information and guidance for experienced genealogy professionals and beginners.

 Footnote.com had announced it will create the complete Interactive U.S. Census.  Footnote already features the 1930 and 1860 censuses, now we'll be adding the other available census years, dating back to the first US Census in 1790. Access to the 1930 census is free and offers its own unique search tools. Go to www.footnote.com

 WorldVitalRecords.com added this past month the Roll of Honor - Cemetery records for Union Civil War Soldiers Interred in National Cemeteries. It also added newspapers from Mexico, France, Chile, Ireland and Alaska and English Parish Records

  Professional Genealogist Study Group:

 There is a website, http://progenstudy.org/, that discusses the study groups, and gives an opportunity to sign up. The groups last for 18 months, and are free." One of the resources used by the study groups is: Professional Genealogy: A Manuel for Researchers, Writers, Editors, Lecturers, and Librarians Edited by Elizabeth Shown Mills.  Group membership is free.

January 8th Genealogy SIG meeting notes 

 Meetings of the Computer Genealogy SIG are open to all members of the Northern Neck Computer Group and the Genealogical Society of the Northern Neck of Virginia. Guests are welcome, but if you become a regular we ask that you consider joining one or the other group – if not both. These other groups have meetings of their own on Saturdays throughout the year. Photo Elements SIG

Meets on 1st Tuesday of each month at Lancaster Community Library, 9:00 a.m.   The group talks about how to take photos and how to work with them in Photoshop Elements .  

 

 Photos are anylized for content, composition, visual interest, etc. Members and local photographers are invited to speak on various aspects of successful photography.
