OUR FOUNDERS
There was enthusiasm for sharing computer information. The group organized and began holding monthly meetings, almost doubling in size with every meeting. Success was impressive, continuing so. Soon thereafter several Special Interest Groups (SIGs) were formed. NNCUG then began helping new computer owners to use their computer programs for word processing, spreadsheet, financial accounting, desktop publishing and basic computing. With Chuck's help the group then created a local electronic bulletin board system (BBS). This was made available for community use by all computer users. This BBS helped create a pool of on-line BBS users, giving training and providing information exchange. The BBS has now been upgraded to a web site. NNCUG was incorporated into 501 C-3 status to enable vendors and other supporters to take advantage of tax-free donations to the group, and remove tax burdens from equipment purchases the group has needed over the years. The NNCUG directly enhanced the Northern Neck's suitability for the Internet and the World Wide Web by spreading the word through training and demonstrations to the public. Several commercial Internet Service Providers are now supporting the area's computer users. Regular meetings are held monthly, and computer help is offered free of charge through our member support group. All area computer users are welcome to attend NNCUG meetings to observe or to join as regular members. The meeting programs show and demonstrate the latest computer equipment, programs and techniques. Our aim is to educate and offer training in basic computing to residents of the Northern Neck counties. We meet on the third Saturday of every month in the auditorium at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury, Irvington, VA. The Agenda: Coffee and Donuts are served at 9:30 a.m. We welcome YOU to come and join us in these informative sessions.
